(The Nitra Evangeliary in the Context of the Cyrillo-Methodian Tradition and Its Significance for the Development of its Educational and Pedagogical Dimension)

Abstract: The Nitra Evangeliary, the oldest book of the Slovak liturgical tradition, stands as a significant example of the early proclamation of the Gospel in the territory of present-day Slovakia. Due to its antiquity and the historical context of its creation, it serves as a compelling illustration of inculturation a key element in the missionary work of Saints Cyril and Methodius of Thessalonica. This is further evidenced by the establishment of the Diocese of Nitra in 880, highlighting the region’s prominent role within Great Moravia. Beyond its value as a preserved liturgical relic, the Evangeliary also offers lasting educational and cultural relevance. Its Gospel texts continue to inspire inclusive pedagogical practices, reflecting the integrative spirit present in Slovak territory as early as the 9th century.
